Boom in online demand
The recently completed investment involved the expansion and modernization of the production, shipping/packaging, administration, warehouse and staff departments. The project is very special for the k.u.k. Not only was the investment volume in the mid-single-digit million range the largest ever invested in the company’s headquarters in its 192-year history, but the expansion and modernization that has now been implemented also makes it possible to meet the significant increase in online demand over the years by optimizing operational processes.
Philipp Zauner (Managing Director): “An expansion like this in the center of Bad Ischl during ongoing operations poses enormous challenges for a company and its employees. We are therefore all the more pleased to have successfully completed this project. Since the pandemic, online demand for our sweet Zauner specialties has developed very positively. In recent years, we have constantly reached the capacity limits in our storage and shipping areas as a result. We have now adapted all of these departments to the changing requirements of the 21st century, optimized our processes and are confident that this investment is a sign of the future.”
Greening is a key issue
As part of the modernization, Zauner is also installing a 100 kWp photovoltaic system on the roof, which will now cover more than half of the company’s own electricity consumption at peak times. In addition, by realigning the entire cooling technology, a heat recovery system with an output of 130 kW was installed, which reduces the heating energy requirement by more than a third and could supply more than 10 single-family homes.
“If you look back at the history of traditional companies, optimizing energy efficiency was unfortunately never a key issue in the past. Today, however, we are all the more concerned about this; I am pleased that we have now succeeded in significantly reducing our ecological footprint and aligning our energy preparation with the future,” says senior partner Josef Zauner.
Additional workplaces
The expansion is expected to create up to 10 new jobs in the areas of production, dispatch and administration. “In recent years, the increase in online demand has literally overtaken us. Sales have risen much faster than our internal structures, processes and team have been able to grow. The investment that has now been implemented is therefore, on the one hand, a response to existing demand, but at the same time also an orientation for the future, which should enable further solid growth and the creation of additional jobs in the center of Bad Ischl,” Philipp Zauner (Managing Director).
