Salzkammergut, 1837: While the Emperor travels to Ischl to enjoy his summer retreat, baker's daughter Lisa wants to fulfill her dream in the spa town: She longs to learn the refined art of confectionery at the Zauner court confectionery, but the profession is forbidden to women. Instead, Johann Zauner offers her a job as a "Zaunerin" in sales. Lisa secretly participates in the creation of delectable confections that even delight the young Empress Elisabeth. She receives support from the young confectioner August, for whom she soon develops tender feelings. But when he suddenly has to leave Ischl and a tragic event threatens the future of the confectionery, Lisa risks losing everything she has fought so hard for.
