On June 23, 2021, Josef Zauner, who significantly shaped the history of the Bad Ischl Imperial and Royal Court Confectionery Zauner for more than five decades, was awarded the Golden Medal of Honor of the State of Upper Austria by Governor Thomas Stelzer in the Linz Redoutensaal. “This is our greatest recognition of the life’s work of Josef Zauner, who turned the Zauner confectionery into a model company in Upper Austria,” said Governor Thomas Stelzer. Josef Zauner, who passed the Austrian and German master craftsman examinations, was able to gain international experience through numerous foreign assignments and shone as a television confectioner on the show “Häferlgucker”, is in the midst of an eventful life: In Japan he teaches at the well-known Japanese confectionery school “Japan Cake and Confectionery College”, has been a visiting professor at this school since 1988 and at the same time looks back on 55 successful years at Zauner. "I am very proud to have created a company that is known far beyond our borders. At the same time, I feel very privileged that I have managed to do this by pursuing my passion - the classic Austrian confectionery craft - every day," says Josef Zauner. In the course of his career, Josef Zauner has been responsible for training more than 150 pastry chef apprentices, who can learn the entire range of Austrian pastry art at Zauner. In the autumn of last year, Josef Zauner handed over the reins of the traditional family business to his son Philipp, who is now leading the pastry shop into the 7th generation. The highly esteemed senior boss of the house will remain with the company in the future: "Zauer is and remains my passion; a successful family business requires the interaction of several generations. I am happy that the transition from one generation to the next has worked very well in our case," Zauner said.
