Largest investment project in the company’s history brought to fruition

The 191-year history of the Zauner confectionery dates back to 1832. Zaunerstollen and Co are already sent all over the world and appreciated by popes and kings. In 2023, the largest investment project of the 7th generation family business will be implemented.

The former k.u.k. Hoflieferant invests in the expansion of the production area (bakery) and storage capacity, modernizes the packaging, mailing and administration departments and creates more spacious employee areas.

Postal delivery and online store as driving forces

In recent years, demand in the online store has increased rapidly. “The sharp rise in demand in the online store segment is mainly due to the fact that we launched our online store back in 1995. This laid the foundation for this important and sustainable building block of our company at an early stage,” Josef Zauner.
“Today, we strive to make our product range as extensive and varied in the online store as we do in our well-known cake buffet. Our constantly changing range for Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, etc. is extremely popular and our extremely fast processing of orders sets us apart. We are thus responding to this current trend while remaining true to our line as a down-to-earth artisan business,” says Philipp Zauner.
Sales in the mail-order segment have developed consistently positively in recent years; in order to continue to meet this trend, Zauner is now creating additional, modern production, storage, administration and packaging areas on an area of around 1,500 square meters.
The recreation and changing areas are being enlarged and redesigned to provide more comfort for the constantly growing workforce.

New jobs in the center of Bad Ischl

“In the short term, we expect to create 5 – 10 new jobs, which will be created in the center of Bad Ischl immediately after the project is completed. It would be much easier to implement this project on a greenfield site, but we have made a strict decision against this, as our headquarters and the town of Bad Ischl are very close to our hearts: we are pursuing a sustainable strategy of developing our company in the heart of the town and constantly creating new jobs here,” Philipp Zauner The staff of the former Hofzuckerbäckerei will be joining the project.
Hofzuckerbäckers’ workforce will increase accordingly to over 160 employees.

Ongoing operations as a challenge

The construction project is being implemented at the “heart” of the business during the peak summer season. The best possible handling of ongoing business is becoming a challenge. “Over the past decades, we have gained a lot of experience in the course of renovation work during ongoing operations. I am therefore optimistic that we will also be able to implement this project smoothly and without compromising the quality of our products,” says Josef Zauner.

Commissioning of the new areas is planned for November 2023.
