Toine de Vries, deputy restaurant manager at Grand Café Zauner Esplanade, took advantage of the recent lockdown in Austria's catering establishments to further his professional training. He immediately completed an intensive training course to become a certified beer sommelier at the Kiesbye Academy in Salzburg's Obertrum; he passed the associated examination with distinction. Managing director Philipp Zauner is also delighted about the very welcome expansion of the program at the traditional Zauner company: "Our goal is always to offer guests experiences that are unique. Being able to surprise regular and day guests with wow experiences is, to a certain extent, what makes the hospitality industry special! So I am extremely pleased that we are currently succeeding in doing this with combinations of sweets and hand-picked beer specialties."
Since then, Toine de Vries has been finding the right beers in the Grand Café Esplanade: “You wouldn’t believe how well certain specialty beers go with sweet creations – like Florentines or Zaunerstollen. In autumn, the chestnut beer from Kaltenhausen in combination with our chestnut roulade it is a real hit!”
In order to present a wide range of Austrian and international beer specialties, the Zauner family and Toine de Vries, who is assisted by the master brewer from the traditional Zipf brewery, invite you to a beer tasting in the Grand Café Zauner Esplanade on October 21, 2021 from 7 p.m. A six-course menu is offered, which is perfectly matched to a selection of hand-picked beers.
