On 23.06.2021 Josef Zauner, who significantly shaped the history of the Bad Ischl k.u.k.. Hofzuckerbäckerei Zauner for more than five decades, was awarded the Golden Badge of Honour of the State of Upper Austria by Governor Thomas Stelzer in the Redoutensaal in Linz.
“This is to express our greatest appreciation for the life’s work of Josef Zauner, who shaped the Zauner confectionery into a model Upper Austrian company,” said Governor Thomas Stelzer.
Josef Zauner, who passed the Austrian and German master craftsman’s examinations, gained international experience through numerous assignments abroad and shone as a television confectioner on the show “Häferlgucker”, is in the midst of an eventful life: in Japan he teaches at a well-known Japanese confectionery college “Japan Cake and Confectionery College”, has been a guest professor at this school since 1988 and at the same time can look back on 55 successful years at Zauner.
“I am very proud to have formed a company that is known far beyond our borders. At the same time, I feel very privileged that I have succeeded in doing so by pursuing my passion – the classic Austrian confectionery craft – on a daily basis”, Josef Zauner.
In the course of his professional career, Josef Zauner has been responsible for the training of more than 150 confectionery apprentices, who can learn the entire range of the Austrian confectionery art at Zauner. In the autumn of last year, Josef Zauner handed over the reins of the traditional family business to his son Philipp, who is now the 7th generation to run the confectionery. However, the highly esteemed senior boss of the house will remain with the company in the future: “Zauner is and will remain my passion, for a successful family business it needs the interaction of several generations. I am glad that the transition from one generation to the other works very well in our case,” Zauner.
